The Abbey - Strata Florida

Once again there is no evidence that this might have been a place of religion prior to the coming of the Cistercians, who founded this abbey on the banks of the river Teifi.  (This is not the original site, for the original abbey was later moved to this site for reasons now lost in the midst of time).

This beautiful setting would have been a lively place judging by the evidence of extensive forest clearance and cultivation over a lengthy period of time.  It is a site which provides the last resting place for Welsh Princes and poets, which in turn indicates the importance of the site down the ages.

But would there have been a female branch of the Druids settled here?  Many sites of ancient worship have been re-used by Christianity so who knows. Again, there is no evidence, but it is a glorious place to visit and to imagine.
